How to get Children to Sleep at Night

Sleep problems in children are often very different from the sleep troubles that plague grownups. Reports have established that children who do not get adequate sleep at night will often nod off in class, will not have the energy to exercise and will experience feelings of depression. Nightmares, bedwetting and sleepwalking are common symptoms of sleep problems in children, so parents should know how to tackle these issues. If you are concerned about your youngsters sleeping habits, then read on for some valuable advice on getting them into a sleep schedule that will improve their quality of life.

New parents are often really worried about how much sleep their infant is having. Newborns have irregular sleep cycles and sleep an average of sixteen to seventeen hours per day. However, they may only sleep one or two hours at a time. As babies progress, the total number of hours they need for sleep lessens. A pre-school child might still want to sleep ten to twelve hours in every twenty four, whereas a school age child sleeps about ten hours each day. It is important to remember that each child’s sleeping pattern will be different.

Studies have indicated that, as many as thirty seven percent of all youngsters suffer some sort of major sleep issues including disrupted sleep, nightmares, sleepwalking and unwillingness to go to sleep.  Dealing with bedwetting - Nocturnal Enuresis, is an additional problem in older children. The culmination of these issues can be the trigger of attention and behavior problems as well as attention deficit hyperactive disorder or ADHD in some school age children. If your child has difficulty getting off to sleep, it is important for you, as a parent, to work out if the cause may be the result or side effect of any ADHD medication he or she may be taking.

Children can protest their bedtime for various reasons. Nonetheless, establishing consistent bedtime rituals can serve to avert sleep problems in children. This can include bathing, teeth brushing, story reading or saying prayers. This down time should be restful. If your youngster suffers from nightmares or night terrors, then lay with them in their bed until they drift off. Never take them to your own bed, because doing so will not encourage them to feel safe and comfy in their own room. It also helps if you talk with your little one about why do we need to sleep. Tell them that sleep will help them to have more vitality to play and grow up strong. This gives them an incentive to sleep more.

Kids learn from example, so stick to a regular sleep ritual yourself. If your child’s symptoms persist, then consider seeing a sleep specialist. On occasions sleep problems in children can be caused by depression or several other anxiety disorders. However, bear in mind that every child is different. If they are lively and active during the day, then do not worry if they are experiencing periodic sleepless nights.

Baby Gender Prediction: Is it Possible?

Many people are wondering about baby gender prediction these days since of course scientific and medical intervention has made so many health related issues much easier to manage and control. While “old wives tales” about baby gender prediction may still abound - calculating the woman’s birth date versus the Chinese lunar calendar or believing that the baby will be the same gender as the more active partner during sex - it’s best to consider some more accurate and more reliable methods with scientific backing.

Some think that the way a woman is carrying her child is a good means of baby gender prediction. Many think that boys tend to sit higher in the belly while girls sit lower. This too is not really accurate as often the way a woman’s belly develops during pregnancy is going to be influenced by her own body shape rather than the child’s gender. A woman that is shorter or that has a shorter torso may find that the baby sits lower in the belly simply because there is not much room for it to develop anywhere else. Taller women may find that the baby sits higher simply because it has that much more room. Of course there are many other factors that influence the size and shape of the belly during pregnancy and this too cannot be considered an accurate baby gender prediction method.

The only seemingly real method of baby gender prediction is based on the fact that the sperm containing the Y chromosomes for boys tend to move faster but die quicker than the sperm containing the X chromosome for girls. However the Y chromosome sperm seem to die quicker than the X chromosome sperm. Many believe that for baby gender prediction you should lie still after intercourse for a boy as this will allow that sperm to reach an egg to fertilize quicker. For a girl you should consider have intercourse a day after ovulation as the Y chromosome sperm may then die off before they reach an egg whereas the longer-lasting X chromosome sperm have a better chance of lasting long enough to reach that egg.

Remember though that there is no guaranteed method of baby gender prediction. All the techniques and tricks in the world cannot and will not control what goes on in a woman’s uterus, so be prepared for a baby of either gender no matter what you try.

Can You Really Determine the Sex of a Baby?

Many expectant parents or those looking to conceive are wondering if it’s possible to determine the sex of your baby; for whatever reason they prefer one gender over another and want to conceive a boy or a girl. Their reasons for this are personal and should be respected of course, but what can parents do if they’re trying to determine the sex of a baby before conception?

For one thing, never think that you’re going to get a guarantee regarding the gender of a baby no matter what you do. Conception is a process that happens at a microscopic level and of course there are typically millions of sperm that are present during intercourse, so any one of those can reach an egg in order to fertilize it. The sperm itself is what will determine the sex of a baby; this has nothing to do with the mother, her age, the month of conception, the amount of potassium in the woman’s system, and so on. Sperm contain one chromosome factor each; a Y chromosome will create a boy whereas an X chromosome will create a girl.

When you realize that the gender of the baby is determined simply by which sperm reaches the egg first, you realize how difficult it is to determine the sex of a baby before conception. Those sperm are so tiny that you just can’t do anything to control which one reaches an egg first! They’re not like pet dogs where you can call one back and send one ahead and the mother certainly has no knowledge of which one is faster than the others.

So how do parents determine the sex of a baby? The only real differences that seem to be present in the sperm is that the Y chromosome sperm travel faster but die quicker than the X chromosome sperm. To conceive a girl you may want to create an environment that is hostile to the sperm so that the weaker boy sperm can die away, and to conceive a boy you may want to have deeper penetration during sex so that the faster sperm can reach the egg quicker. Even then, to really determine the sex of a baby you should wait until you’re actually pregnant and have an ultrasound from your doctor so that you know for sure, as many parents have been surprised by their baby’s gender!

How To Find A Great Preschool Game Online

Getting All You Can From Preschool Games Online

Before you know it, you will want to find preschool games online for reading and math preparation.  You will first want to search out the best sites first, before you introduce this to them.  It is so important that the online activities that they will begin to be exposed to are learning activities, not just time-users.  There are many excellent programs online.  Preschool children are too young to use the computer as a babysitter.

Although your children will see this activity as pure fun, you can rest assured knowing that you are providing a rich, educational experience for them while they play!  That is the rewarding part, and you will feel no guilt when you need a few moments to get chores done around the house or in the car.  The very best way to explore this is to sit down with the child and play the game with the child yourself. This is a perfect way to know exactly what your toddler is seeing.

Seeking Out Games

To find games online, you just have to do a simple search and you will see many choices online.  You might want also to check with your child’s teacher at his/her preschool to see if they might have some online game sites that are their favorites.  Most preschool teachers are familiar with good online game sites, especially since now most schools are well-equipped with computer technology and learning games for children of all ages.

Another Idea for Finding Preschool Games Online

Sometimes the favorite cartoon characters on television have preschool learning games that go along with them.  Try searching the term of your child’s favorite character, and you will more than likely come across a site that offers learning programs with that character. Both you and your child will be amazed at the graphics and learning available!

Baby Care Checklist

Using A Baby Care Checklist

Having a baby is a wonderful and exiting time in anyone’s life.  The baby will bring a whole new chapter into the life of the parents and will become one of the major reasons for every decision that is made by the parents.  Every aspect of life will become more complicated and will need to be planned and well thought out.  One thing that can help to keep things simple is for the parents to use baby care checklists.   There are a variety of baby care checklists that can be used for all different purposes to help the parents and other caregivers in the preparation and care of the infant.

Baby Care Checklist For The Nursery

As the birth of the infant approaches the parents will find that a baby care checklist can help in preparing the nursery and home for the arrival.  First time parents, especially, will be amazed at how many things are needed in the nursery.  Everything from the crib to the basic health care supplies will need to be purchased in advance of the baby’s arrival.  Using a baby care checklist will insure that no essential items are forgotten.  The parents can create their own list for nursery items with the help of family, friends and books or they can use a list found on the internet or from parenting resources.

First Timers Baby Care Checklist

For first time parents a baby care checklist can be a great resource to make sure that every area of care is being addressed by the parents.  Although most of the care of the infant will be evident, new parents may be very nervous and will find comfort in using a checklist to help them know that have done everything they need to do for the infant.  The baby care checklist can also provide the parents with a place to record feedings, diaper changes and other vital information.  This information can be used by the parents and the pediatrician to see that the baby’s needs are being met.

Caregiver’s Baby Care Checklist

Another great use for a baby care checklist is when the infant is left in the care of a babysitter.  By creating a caregiver’s baby care checklist for the babysitter the parents can help the babysitter know and understand the needs of their child.  The babysitter can use the checklist to insure that all feedings and care needs have been met and they can record all the information of the care for the parents.  Then when the parents resume care of the infant they will have a quick history of how much the baby ate and when the last diaper change was.  This will help the consistency of care to be maintained as the transition of caregivers takes place.
